7TV Wide Emote Size Requirements

7TV is the only third-party Twitch emote platform that supports wide emotes. The maximum aspect ratio is 3:1, which translates to a 384×128 pixel canvas at the highest resolution (4x). 7TV automatically generates the smaller sizes (1x = 96×29, 2x = 192×58, 3x = 288×87) from your upload, so you only need to provide the 4x version. Upload as PNG for transparency, GIF for animation, or WebP for the smallest file sizes.

Aspect Ratio3:1 (max wide ratio on 7TV)

What Is a 7TV Wide Emote?

A wide emote is a 3:1 horizontal emote made famous by the original WIDE emote on 7TV. Unlike standard square Twitch emotes (1:1), wide emotes stretch horizontally and are popular for meme effects (the WIDE/THICC family), long-form reactions, character side-views, and panoramic art. 7TV is currently the only platform that displays them properly — BTTV and FFZ do not support wide emotes.

Why Use Wide Emotes?

Wide emotes have become a Twitch chat staple because they break the visual monotony of square emotes and amplify reactions. Famous wide emotes like WIDE, frogWide, drakeWide, and Madge are recognized across Twitch, and the horizontal stretch creates instant comedic timing — a wide version of a character or meme reads as exaggerated, dramatic, or absurd. They also work great for streamers who want signature emotes that stand out in fast-moving chat. Since 7TV gives every channel 200–600 free emote slots, there is plenty of room to add a few wides without sacrificing your standard set.

How to Make a 7TV Wide Emote

1. Pick your source image — any PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP works. Square images become the most dramatic WIDE memes; rectangular images often look better in Fit mode. 2. Choose Stretch (distorts to 3:1, the meme look) or Fit (keeps proportions, adds transparent padding on the sides). 3. Upload — the tool resizes to 384×128 instantly in your browser. 4. Download the result and upload it on 7TV.app. 7TV generates the 1x/2x/3x sizes automatically.

How to Upload a Wide Emote on 7TV

Open 7tv.app, sign in with your Twitch or YouTube account, and click "Upload Emote" in the top-right menu. Drag in your 384×128 file, give it a name (no spaces, ASCII characters), and submit. After 7TV processes the upload (usually under a minute), add the emote to one of your channel emote sets. Viewers with the 7TV browser extension installed will see it instantly in your chat.

Stretch vs Fit: Which Mode Should You Use?

Use Stretch when you want the WIDE meme effect — your image gets distorted to fill the entire 384×128 canvas, making characters look horizontally exaggerated. This is the right choice for character emotes, faces, or anything where the comedy comes from the distortion itself. Use Fit when you want a wide canvas without distortion — your image keeps its original proportions and is centered with transparent padding on the sides. This is the right choice for long-form art, panoramic scenes, text-based emotes, or any image that would look bad stretched.

384×128 pixels at the largest (4x) size, with a 3:1 aspect ratio. 7TV automatically generates the 1x (96×29), 2x (192×58), and 3x (288×87) variants from your upload, so you only need to provide the 4x file.
Stretch distorts your image to fill the 384×128 canvas — this is the WIDE meme effect. Fit keeps your image's original proportions and adds transparent padding on the sides — useful for art that would look bad stretched.
Yes. Animated GIFs are resized to 384×128 with the same Stretch or Fit logic, then optimized for chat performance. We recommend keeping animated wide emotes under 1 MB so they feel snappy in chat.
